From The Pastor's Heart:
We have been learning from James 5 what to do when sickness strikes. Pastor James has shown us so far that when sickness strikes we are to call for God's people to pray and we are to cooperate with God's laws of healing. Today we will see how we are to commit to the will of God when sickness strikes.
In verse 14 we read “... and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. “
In Colossians 3.17 we read, “and whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks toGod the Father through Him.” As you pray and seek the best medical care as you anoint with oil, do it all with the same attitude Jesus had when He prayed: “Not my will, but Your will be done. “
In verse 15, “And the prayer of faith will save the sick ...” What is this “prayer of faith?” How do you pray in faith? You pray believing God will heal. Physical healing is a mystery. Medical doctors do not heal, medicine does not heal. Proper diet does not heal. Exercise does not heal. GOD HEALS. He is Jehovah Rapha the God who heals.
He uses doctors at times. At other times, He just heals. And our part is to pray and believe. One man said it this way, “when the aspirin works, it is the Lord who has made it work. When the surgeon set the broken limb and the bone knits, it is the Lord who has made it knit.” There is always a spiritual dimension in healing.
On no occasion should a Christian approach the doctor without also approaching God. “For I am the LORD, who heals you. “
Let me ask you this: what good is it if God heals you and then you end up dying and going to hell? The greatest miracle is not physical healing, it is spiritual healing. The greatest miracle is when God takes something that is dead and puts life into it forever. Have you ever experienced life in Christ?
