A Snapshot of You
A snapshot is a picture of you in a given moment; it may not be an accurate record of what you would like to be. Take a snapshot of yourself to find out where you are and where you want to go. Answer these questions and consider your life in Christ.
What is your passion? Any variety of things can be your passion in life; do you have something in your life that makes you say, “this is the breath of life to me”? You can determine your passions in life by examining the things that are important to you. How do you spend your money? How to do you spend your free time? What things do you often talk about with other people?
You cannot serve both God and your passion. Is your passion aligned with the things of God? If our passion isn’t aligned with God, we become what our passions lead us to be and fail to walk in the will of God.
Who are your people? Look not at your family, but instead the friends that you choose to surround yourself with. These people often share your passions—you spend your money, time, and conversations with them. We are greatly influenced by others and our peers have a big affect on our beliefs. Are the people you’re close with committed and active followers of Christ? Do they encourage you in the word of God?
What are your plans? What do you hope happens in your life in the next 5, 10, or 20 years? The plans we make will decide what we become.
Understand the things that help drive your plans:
What is your compass? Your compass drives you in a certain direction. It could be culture, morality, self-aggrandizement, or any number of attitudes. Your compass should be the Word of God and the voice of the Holy Spirit.
What are your boundaries? How much time and effort are you willing to spend? Christians in parts of the world risking persecution have different boundaries than we do in Oklahoma; be aware of how much difficulty you’re willing to face.
What are your motives? Are your actions driven by self-serving motives or are they a reflection of your passion for Christ? Living all aspects of your life as acts of worship to God changes the way you plan for you life for the future.
