What About Missions?

Missions are a command from God to do His work and spread His word.

This week Aspen Park begins its annual fundraising for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions.  Bro. David looks at Luke 19:1-10 through the lens of missions for how we can contribute to this worthwhile effort. As a follower of God, you have been given a mission and missions are all about the task that Jesus would have us to do. 

As Southern Baptists we have a system for cooperating with others churches for missionary endeavors.  This Cooperative Program began in 1925 and funds missions and missionaries all over the world. The money we give as a church to the state convention goes to fund camps, assemblies, OBU, disaster relief, Baptist Children's Villages and much more. In addition to these general offerings, we have focused conference offerings for missions every year. They are the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American missions, the Edna Mcmillan Offering for state missions, and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions.

Through our cooperation with other Baptist churches, we can say that we have had a part in every student that graduates from our colleges or seminaries and every missionary that is sent to a mission field.  International missions are a particular concern because there are so many people in the world with no one to share Jesus with them through stories, Bibles, or music.

A mission is a task set directly by God. It is an obligation, and opportunity, and a challenge.  People all over the world are lost, but we have the gospel and by sharing it we can be the mission-minded church God wants us to be.
