God's Promise for When You Sin
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. "
In our series of messages Standing on the Promises we find a significant promise in 1 John 1:5-9. When it comes to sin, we have two options. We can try to cover up our sin and hope that it isn't discovered. However, the Bible says that you will not prosper by living in such a way. Sin will always hold us back, complicate, and detract from our lives.
The alternative is to confess our sins and allow God to cleanse us of them. The healthiest, most productive way to live is by coming clean to God. Simply put, Bible confession is agreeing with God- it is acknowledging that something is indeed a sin and that it must be removed from your life. Our fellowship with God is in proportion to our confession and our confession impacts our fellowship with others.
On the basis of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice and because of His promise, God forgives us for our confessed sins. And when God forgives us, He cleanses us.
