The Church God Builds: Missions
Acts 1:8
The Church that God Builds is a six-part series as part of of Aspen Park’s transition plan. The Transition Team is structured as a group of six smaller teams, each focused on a particular function. Each team is working to compile goals and action plans for the church in one area. This is the final sermon in the series.
No matter how good a salesman you may be, you cannot talk someone into the Kingdom of God; It’s a spiritual birth and in order to be an effective witness to others we must walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. Missions is all about reaching out to others, so of course it all starts with yielding to the Holy Spirit.
Just like the early church served Jerusalem, for Aspen Park the Tulsa metropolitan area is our Jerusalem! Aspen Park serves missions throughout the local area. The missions we take part in that support the local community are:
Indian Springs Apartments, DaySpring Villa
Arms Around Broken Arrow John 3:16 Mission
Vacation Bible School Community Festivals
Tulsa Metro Baptist Network
With such a variety of ways to get involved, for what do you have a heart and vision?
Similarly, the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO) is like our Judea and Samaria! Through BGCO we help support missions throughout our region. For example, in recent years there has been a major need for disaster relief due to hurricanes and Aspen Park has answered this call. But it doesn’t stop there; through our gifts to the North American Missions Board (NAMB) and the International Missions Board (IMB) we participate in a bigger effort to fund missions across the country and beyond. Aspen Park personally spreads the Word of God to Haiti when we send a missionary team there every Summer.
We should go to the ends of the Earth to share God’s Word! Reflect on what God says to you personally about missions. In what areas does God want you to be plugged in? What is your part in the mission of the church?
